Trying To Match A Font?

When personal computers first came out, there were a handful of fonts. First designed to mimic fonts being used by the printing industry and then later it got creative. So creative in fact that in a 2010 article it was noted that there were over 265,000 fonts available. That was 7 years ago! Add to the mix that several hundred type companies exist, all creating their own styles and versions of existing fonts.

In the meantime several companies came out with software to create and customize your own fonts.

You can find the same font from 5 different companies with 5 different names. They are slightly different to the point you would not see it normally.

So the next time you need to get something printed and you want to "match" a font, keep in mind the struggle of designers and printers who have to deal with all of it.
